Representative of Papadimouli’s groundbreaking combination of architecture, sculpture and costume,

“Skinscapes” are monumental double-sided textile pieces made of hand-dyed linen fabric, glass fiber plastic and satin, mounted afloat on wooden structures. Inspired by utopian architectural and artistic avant-gardes as much as by contemporary dance, the modular, elastic sculptures operate simultaneously as costume-props for collective movement, abstract monochromatic paintings that conceal hidden bursts of color and light, and architectural interfaces for assembling bodies and negotiating boundaries. The soft reliefs, folds and crevices arranged on the canvas echo our bodily scales in the form of sleeves, cylindrical openings reminiscent of necks and protrusions made to accommodate legs. Designed in compatibility for two or three human bodies to inhabit and activate them, when hung on the wall, these works are conceived to be “on strike”, at once repositories of human bodies and movements, and architectural elements emanating from the body to shift our spatial perceptions.
