Rooted in drawing and shaped by a sculptural sensibility, Lux Miranda’s carpets emerge from a practice attuned to the occulted, sensitive layers of contemporary Western consciousness. Each work begins with a meditative act of mark-making, in which the artist synthesizes a vast and eclectic visual reservoir—from Neolithic symbols to medieval iconography, neo-Gothic aesthetics to cyberpunk imaginaries. These references, internalized and transformed through a process of intuitive digestion, crystallize into a personal symbolic lexicon tending toward universality. Executed with a tufting gun in a physically performative process, Miranda’s compositions translate mental states and emotional thresholds into rhythmic, chromatic forms that inhabit space like sculptural objects. Their volumetric presence invites the viewer to circulate around them, as one would a sculpture. The drawing becomes both a map and a “sigil”—a graphic inscription of magical intention, akin to ancient picto-ideographic systems that predate language. Infused into the textured materiality of wool, her carpets operate as vessels for introspection, meditation, and transformation. In this way, Miranda opens up a symbolic space from which to question dominant narratives surrounding origin, identity, and the sacred.
