Lux Miranda
Informed by Lux Miranda's interest in archaeology, the Neolithic and medieval imaginaries, “Transgenerational Gift” marks an important step in the artist's practice towards queer abstraction through contemporary tapestry. Nourished by a reflection on creation as an act of reliance - on oneself, on others, on the cycles of nature and life, the forms she weaves are derived from the more or less conscious synthesis of images absorbed in large quantities, from Medieval art to Neolithic art, via neo-Gothic and cyberpunk culture. Executed through a physically performative process with a tufting gun, Miranda's compositions translate mental states and emotional thresholds into rhythmic, chromatic forms that inhabit the space like sculptural objects. The tapestry becomes both a map and a “sigil” - a graphic inscription of magical intent, akin to ancient picto-ideographic systems that predate language. Miranda thus opens up a symbolic space from which she questions dominant narratives concerning origin, identity and the sacred, where each piece is conceived as a space of memory and meditation, a poetic tool that invites us to re-examine our fragmented existences.
